First Christian Church

   Each year since 1994, during October, pumpkins are brought in and the entire front lawn becomes a virtual mini-maze of all colors, sizes, and shapes of pumpkins.  This is the main church/ community fund raiser for the year and the proceeds are used for local and church projects through out the year.  The patch is open daily the entire month with new pumpkins arriving weekly.  Each weekday, day care and school groups are brought to the patch as a group outing.  The children look forward every year to coming to the pumpkin patch
where they are read a story about Halloween, provided refreshments, and given a mini pumpkin of their very own.  The church congregation works together on the last Sunday afternoon in September (usually) unloading the pumpkins from the truck and placing them in designs around the lawn.

   During October, in conjunction with the Pumpkin Patch, each Saturday features a different event.  On October 3rd, the annual Car Show will be in the South parking lot.   October 10th  will be Family Fun Day when the train will be running along with games and activities for children.  Saturday, Oct. 24th, will be "Everything Pumpkin Day" when all attending will be able to sample pumpkin pie,
pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes, and other pumpkin specialties.  

   The Pumpkin Patch is also a favorite gathering place for kindergarten, pre-school, and day care children during the week.  Any teachers interested in reserving a time for his/her class should call the church office at 405-275-1519.

Hence, the church has become known as “The Pumpkin Patch Church.”
